Quick Q&A:
Q: What will I be making?
A: You’ll each be making a ring using jeweller’s modelling wax. The wax model you create will be an exact replica of the ring design you want to cast in silver.
Q: What is jeweller’s wax?
A: Jeweller’s wax is a modelling material that’s very easy to work with, making it perfect for beginners. In this workshop, it will be used in a process called lost wax casting—an ancient technique that dates back over 6,000 years.
Q: How does it become silver?
A: Your wax ring goes through a process called lost wax casting. A plaster mould is formed around your wax model, which is then melted out (hence the name lost wax), leaving a cavity in the exact shape of your design. Molten silver is poured into the mould, solidifies, and becomes a precise metal version of your original wax ring.
Q: When will I get my ring?
A: You’ll receive your finished silver ring approximately 3–4 weeks after the workshop. This allows time for professional casting, finishing, and polishing.
