Bespoke Jewellery Terms & Conditions
These terms apply to all bespoke commissions undertaken by Lily Read Jewellery. By paying a deposit, the client agrees to these terms.
Bespoke nature of work
All bespoke items are made to order based on agreed design specifications. Minor variations in size, dimensions, materials, or finish are normal and part of the bespoke process.
Intellectual property
All designs remain the property of Lily Read Jewellery unless agreed otherwise. Clients may not reproduce designs without permission. Finished bespoke pieces may be photographed for portfolio, website, and marketing purposes.
Pricing & estimates
- Prices are estimates due to factors such as dimensions, materials, specialist processes, and metal price fluctuations.
- Final price is confirmed once materials are prepared and the piece is completed.
- Any adjustments outside the original estimate will be communicated and approved before work continues.
- All prices include 25% VAT unless stated otherwise.
Design approval & changes
Work begins only after final approval of design and materials, and receipt of the required deposit. Changes after approval may affect price and timelines; any such changes will be confirmed before work continues.
Sizing & Fit
- Clients are responsible for providing accurate sizing information for rings, bracelets, bangles, and other tailored pieces.
- Studio fittings are possible, and sizing will be based on measurements taken during that appointment. Remote sizing relies on client information, and Lily Read Jewellery cannot be held responsible for incorrect fit.
- One complimentary adjustment is included where technically feasible. This may include ring resizing up or down two sizes or minor modifications to other fitted pieces.
- Some designs (continuous stone settings, complex constructions, or specific proportions) may not be suitable for adjustments without affecting integrity or appearance. Additional adjustments may incur a fee.
- Temporary or seasonal changes in body size may affect fit and are not considered defects.
Deposits & payment
- A non-refundable deposit (usually 50%) is required to begin work.
- The deposit contributes towards design time, materials, and work undertaken.
- Remaining balance is due on completion and must be paid before handover or delivery.
- Payment confirms acceptance of these terms.
Ownership
All jewellery remains the property of Lily Read Jewellery until full payment is received.
Right of withdrawal
Bespoke and custom-made items are exempt from the 14-day right of withdrawal under Danish law.
Client-supplied materials
Metal:
- Unknown alloys, prior chemical exposure, or structural weaknesses may affect workability, colour, or integrity.
- Some material loss during fabrication is unavoidable.
- Recycled metals may not suit all designs and may require additional material.
Stones
- Client-supplied stones are worked at the client’s risk. Natural characteristics or prior work may cause breakage or chipping.
- If a stone cannot be used as originally approved, options include adapting the design, selecting an alternative design, or pausing/discontinuing the project.
- Work already undertaken, specialist costs, and deposits remain payable.
Stones sourced by Lily Read Jewellery
- Reasonable care is taken to assess suitability for the approved design.
- In rare cases, stones may crack or break during setting or finishing.
- Replacement stones of similar type, quality, and appearance will be supplied at no additional cost if within the original estimate. Additional costs will be communicated before work continues.
- Work already undertaken and specialist costs remain payable.
Discontinuation / cancellation
In rare cases, projects may be discontinued due to technical, material, or structural reasons. Deposits and work already undertaken remain non-refundable. Clients may pause or discontinue at their discretion, subject to the same rules.
Delivery & collection
- Completion timelines are estimates. Delays may occur due to specialist processes, material availability, or unforeseen issues.
- Finished items must be paid in full before collection or delivery.
Uncollected items & storage
- Items must be collected or delivery arranged within a reasonable time after notification.
- If items remain uncollected or delivery cannot be completed due to client delay for more than six months, Lily Read Jewellery reserves the right to charge reasonable storage fees or take proportionate steps to recover outstanding costs.
Limitation of liability
- Lily Read Jewellery is not liable for delays, defects, or additional costs caused by circumstances beyond reasonable control (suppliers, natural material variations, force majeure).
- This does not limit statutory rights under Danish consumer protection law.
Defects & complaints
- The Danish Sale of Goods Act (Købeloven) applies to manufacturing defects at delivery.
- It does not cover normal wear, accidental damage, misuse, or third-party alterations.
- Complaints must be raised within a reasonable time of discovery.
Care, repairs & alterations
- Clients are responsible for care and maintenance.
- Repairs, alterations, or resizing after delivery are assessed case by case. Costs and timelines will be communicated before work begins.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Danish law and apply to international clients.
